a spot of color

here in upstate ny, we're FINALLY getting a little color here and there... the grass is going from brown to green, little sprouts are happily poking through the dirt, and hopefully we'll see colors like this outside again very, very soon. so nice.

i will shoot your ink for free

hmmmm.

so, this morning, i was thinking.

(about tattoos).

i love them.

secretly, i'm kind of a junkie, although i don't have any (yet) myself. :)

i'm so intrigued by this art that becomes so personal that you have to link it to yourself and your body forever.

some are awesome, some kind of not. haha. but the ones that are not still somehow are, because they tell a story of things, people, ideas, places in your life that have meant something to you. that's pretty cool.

here's what i'm thinking. depending on the response, i may have to limit this offer to the first (however many) people who respond, and it's definitely as my schedule allows, but i would love to shoot a few photos of your tattoo(s) for free. my only condition is that it's gotta be stuff that's family-friendly aka "PG" rated.

my contact info is to the right. holler if you're interested. :)

that's what little boys are made of.

i grew up with a sister and a lot of girl cousins, but after a fun afternoon full of sticks and trains and tricycles with this little guy and his wonderful parents, i've decided that (one day!) i'd love to have a little boy of my own. he was the sweetest, most charming, "boy's boy" i have ever met. taking photographs of this little guy was almost too easy and has spoiled me from here on out, i'm sure.

enjoy.

andrew + lilly (engagement)

how much do i love love?

a whole heck of a lot.

it's really amazing when i get to spend an hour or two with a couple, get to know them a little bit, get rid of those "hey you, person i don't really know, you're staring at me taking my picture" jitters ;), and start to observe what they are like together and how much they love each other.

i've always been somewhat of a hopeless romantic, and (to be honest), i'm in the middle of a pretty incredible love story myself... but when i see couples like andrew and lilly i still get this silly grin on my face and for even just a few minutes feel as though all is right with the world. this guy loves this girl. she can't get enough of him. there's a mutual care and respect that means they put the other before themselves. it's good, my friend. very good.

(ps, look out for photos from their wedding around mid-june!)

this shot is not my fault...

... but i love it SO very much!

i'd say it was the most amazing accident that could've happened this weekend. :) sometimes you just end up with something sort of magic. this is a perfect example!

the weekend was jam-packed with fun people and cute kids to photograph. keep your eyes peeled- there's more to come very soon!

(it's personal), vol. 4

i have one sister, and she is absolutely one of the people (if not THE person!) that i love most in the world. last year she married a guy named jordan, who i've come to love almost just as much. :) they are fantastic, wonderful, amazing people and it makes me happy to be their family.

this past week, they bought a house.

it's SO cool!

there's a lot of work to be done in terms of tearing down wallpaper/painting and just in general setting up house, but i'm so excited to help them with all this in the next couple of months. being more of a nomad :) i'm not anywhere near ready to buy a house of my own, but it sure is fun to help other people with theirs.

my lovely assistant

meet leah.

oh my, so serious. let's try this again:

yes, that's more like it. ;)

if you see her around, she might be doing something like this:

because on any of the east coast weddings i shoot, leah is my right-hand 2nd camera woman. a talented and artistic woman in her own right, i am PRIVILEGED to have her join me on all the weddings i have booked for 2009 in new york state.

sometimes i make her pose like this:

but not TOO often otherwise i'll get some kind of crazy, ridiculous, "am i done with this yet?!" kind of face that i COULD post here... but she'd probably kill me. ;) instead, i'll end this blog entry with a shot that looks pretty normal... don't let it fool you. :) HA. no, seriously, she's amazing and brilliant and i love her to pieces. you will, too.

(it's personal), vol. 3

in the last couple of days, i got a few new toys. :) a new camera body and new lens, to be more specific. the little nerd in me came to life when i saw that big brown box from b&h photo (where i order almost all of my equipment...) and although i've been working my day job and it's freezing as all get out once i'm thru at 5pm, i have not been able to help myself and have had to test it out a bit. beautiful results. b-e-a-utiful. i can't wait for the upcoming family shoots, senior portraits, and weddings i have in the next 4 months! gotta put this baby to work and see what she can do. :)

anyway.

here are a few of my test shots. testing, testing, 1-2-3.

this amazing piece of art was a gift i received this past valentine's day... it needs to go on my wall, asap.

ok. my mom and dad have been married 30 years this coming september and they're still crazy about each other after all this time. amazing.

kitty is awfully good at the evil eye. :)

lasty, my face. haha. when i first got the camera no one was around to model for me so i decided i had to do it myself. :)

first family shoot on my new camera: this coming saturday! i can not wait.
